Since the world has been "digitized" there have been many new and often disruptive developments in the way we live and work. There have also been many developments in medical technology which when digitally enabled cause enormous breakthroughs. Just these two facts alone require new paradigms: different thinking in how to diagnose and treat ailments.
Consulting “Dr Google” as I call researching some conditions on the internet before going to the medical practitioner has its downsides in some cases but for most of our occasional ailments the advice is pretty good. I am not advocating skipping a proper medical diagnosis here, but the collected knowledge of Dr Google is probably more comprehensive and up to date than most individual medical practitioners can claim. At least you can ask your practitioner some informed questions.
The other factor in Dr Google is also AI, Artificial Intelligence – which like it or not will affect all professions and our lives as it scans, accumulates and structures an enormous amount of data and resources. Hence, the availability of sound advice also increases exponentially. The problem now still is discernment with all that advice. That's why you might still speak to a medical specialist and do so with some understanding.
AI is a collective pool of human (medical) knowledge which is served in a neat, structured and accessible way on the internet. That’s the advantage to a discerning person.
Then there is the fact of a busy and fast-paced life which most of us lead which asks for solutions which can be applied safely, with no side-effects and verified effects and in the comfort of our homes, if possible. There are already many solutions like this and greater number of people avail themselves of some of these treatments and methods.
Medical Research, Technology and the Internet are three factors which will change the paradigm also of how we ordinary people will look at ailments and restoring good health, performance and quality of life. Our expectations, perspectives and interactions with professionals might change profoundly in the near future when we take charge of our own well being.
Think about it. Its not so much about if you agree with me or what you might believe, but it’s the Truth that matters. So continue to find out from reliable sources – artificial intelligence or not.
